End of the 19th century: Waldtrudering was one single forest area. The large forest east of Munich went as far as today’s Turnerstrasse. Between Turnerstrasse and today´s Munich center, the soil was not proper for forestry.

1871: the Royal Bavarian State Railways took the Trudering station into operation on October 15, 1871 included in the Munich – Rosenheim line. The people from Munich and Haidhausen went on foot from the Trudering train station towards Haar for excursions.

1890: there were only 3 postal routes in Waldtrudering, besides the old salt route (today the Wasserburger Landstrasse (Wabula)).

From approximately 1890 there was a reinforcement of the weekend tourism from people of Haidhausen and Munich.

May 01, 1897: opening of the Gronsdorf train stop.

After the turn of the century: the first small gardens in Waldtrudering appeared. Parts of the forest were acquired by individuals and companies. Still, there were no farms in contrast with Straß- and Kirchtrudering.

1905: one of the first stone houses built – the restaurant/inn “Fantasie”. The property was parceled out in 1903. With a slaughterhouse (where a non-food discounter is currently situated, and supermarkets before that), beer garden (extended until today´s Adlerstrasse), bowling alley, toboggan run for summer and winter, etc. In summer, a folk festival took place there every Sunday. It was a popular destination of the Munich cycling clubs. Torn down in 1964, the “Phantasie settlement” planned by Ernst Maria Lang was built on the former restaurant area extending to Adlerstrasse, including the Waldtruderinger “high-rise building” (Wabula 211):

1905/1906: Uta fountain, designed by August Erlacher and built by Sebastian Neumair. It was established in 1914 in the corner Waldtruderinger/Tangastrasse:

March 08, 1906: while celebrating in the restaurant Fantasie his newly acquired properties, Sebastian Neumair named the settlement “Waldtrudering”.

1908: first division of the properties.

1910: Sebastian Neumair built a first water bunker in the Lachenmeyrstrasse, which was able to supply small parts of Waldtrudering.

1910: the Wendel villa was built. It was demolished around 1972. In its former site (Wabula 221) it is today located a croatian restaurant:

1911: “The “founding year”. The first settlers formed a “Free Association Waldtrudering” – through Franz Irber, Sebastian Neumair and August Erlacher in the restaurant “Fantasie”. Later, the “Turmwirt” became the association´s establishment. Franz Irber, the first chairman, asked the local authority Royal District Office of Munich II in June 1911 to give the settlement between Trudering and Haar a name: “Waldtrudering”. At the time there were 20 houses, approx. 30 families, 160 garden owners.

1911: one of the oldest still-remaining houses was built in the Bahnstrasse 2.

1911: the group of terraced houses were built at Lachenmeyrstrasse 14-18, with Oberhuberstrasse 11. In baroque style, with a mansard roof as part of a planned country house colony in Waldtrudering. The first water tower was built here, by Sebastian Neumair, and stood on the roundabout Lachenmeyr- / Oberhuberstrasse (far left in the picture):

1913: there were already 7 large restaurants/taverns, with a total of around 700 seats:

1 – Restaurant “Villa Sexauer”. Built in 1899, licensed since May 16, 1906 was located at today´s Drosselweg 15, across the Stieglitzweg. The house is still standing but in a simpler way:

2 – A farm called Schneiderhof was firstly located in “old” Gronsdorf (close to the church) but after a fire in 1856, it was rebuilt close to the planned railway line, 1 km away from the village center. In 1897, the property was bought by Wilhelm Lexaurer, who built there the restaurant “Schneiderhof”, directly in front of the Gronsdorf train stop (current S-Bahnhof station Gronsdorf). The restaurant was closed in 2001 and demolished in 2012:

Currently a greek restaurant is here located, in the Wabula 212:

The Waldtruderinger, under the leadership of the association “Freien Interessentenvereinigung Waldtrudering e.V.” did not want to go to Munich, but to Haar instead. But they could not inspire the Truderinger council. From all of the 165 streets in Waldtrudering, 50 of them had to be renamed, around half of them with colonial names.

June 26, 1932: this space is inaugurated by Cardinal Faulhaber and given the name “Cardinal Faulhaber – Forest Recreation Area”. A statue of the Virgin Mary was also set up, which was later incorporated in a “Lourdes grotto”. Except for the grotto, the complex was destroyed during the war:
